NOTE: It is a bit odd to think that Jesus in His travail of soul on the Cross, yet felt it necessary to turn His mother over to the keeping of His special disciple John! For - his half-brothers James and Jude later wrote two of the 27 books of the NT, and James became the apostolic pastor of the church of Jerusalem, having leadership over the 12 apostles plus all the elder pastors of the church of Jerusalem, with over 5000 men besides women and children.
We know that when Jesus went secretly to Jerusalem for the last Passover of His ministry, at which He became the true Passover, his brothers did notthen believe on Him. Possibly they became disciples at the death and resurrection of their brother after the flesh - and were of the 120 in the Upper Room with their mother Mary - when the Spirit was outpoured on the Day of Pentecost.
Still, that did not change the new residence of Mary, who remained with John according to the appointment of Jesus.
It is important to note 19:28-37, and the recording here of the fulfillment of prophetic scriptures concerning the end time of the Messiah's earthly ministry, fulfilled by Jesus, Son of man and Son of God.
God knew how difficult it would be for Jews to see Jesus as the fulfillment of Messianic Prophecy - so He multiplied occurrence after occurrence in the last week of Jesus prior to His crucifixion - of how His only begotten Son fulfilled allprophecies spoken of Him aforetime as David's greater son.
Any person understanding the details of law fulfillment, would of necessity have to acknowledge that Jesus of Nazareth, was indeed that Prophet to come - the One foretold by Moses. And what of the Jewish leaders of that day who so blindly and blatantly rejected all of these unanswerable proofs?
Then we can tremble for them with the sure upcoming of the Great White Throne Judgment, when Jesus as God's appointed Judge - will mete out to them at that time their just desserts. Let all men tremble like Felix in Acts 24, when Paul reasoned of righteousness, self-control, and judgment to come! J.A.W.
